HAZARD AWARENESS ADVISOR
U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration
Small and medium-sized enterprises know that they are responsible for safety and health of their employees. Often, however, they are not aware of which particular activities, processes, or chemicals are considered by OSHA to be hazardous. Indeed they are not often aware that OSHA regulations represent "best practice" in how they can operate their facility. The Hazard Awareness Advisor, now out available from the OSHA website, assists users in identifying health and safety practicies and their associated regulations that are imporatant to their business.
The computer program asks questions of the user on activities, processes, facility descriptions, chemicals uses, and business practices. The questions are targeted toward four generic environments:Heavy Manufacturing, Light Manufacturing and Repair, Retail and Service, and Office. The output of the program is a report describing areas of occupational safety and health concern that apply to the users' establishment, and identifies appropriate regulations and other resources available from the OSHA publication office or other OSHA programs.
CONSAD is also the developer of the OSHA Asbestos Advisor, which received the Hammer Award from the National Performance Review for the contribution that this system made toward the improvement of government service to the public. Visit the OSHA Advisors web site
